 "GOLF PACKAGE" AT THE LAKES

PUBLIC NOTICE: Due to sufficient increase in lake water levels with recent rains, the lake has reopened to all motorized watercraft. Normal operating hours for boats having motors larger than 10 HP are 9 AM to 7 PM daylight savings time. After daylight savings time ends, the hours are 9 AM To 6 PM Eastern Standard Time. Outside these hours, motors are restricted to 10 HP and less. All vehicles must purchase and display a ParkPass. All boats, regardless of motor size, must be off the water at sunset. Boaters must comply with all boating safety rules and regulations.
Located near the northern edge of the mysterious Okefenokee Swamp, this park is home to many fascinating creatures and plants, including alligators and carnivorous pitcher plants. Walking or biking along the lake’s edge and nature trail, visitors may spot the shy gopher tortoise, numerous oak varieties, saw palmettos, yellow shafted flickers, warblers, owls and great blue herons. The park’s lake offers opportunities for fishing, skiing and boating, and canoes and bicycles are available for rent. The Lakes, a championship 18-hole golf course, features a clubhouse, golf pro and junior/senior rates. Greens are undulating rather than tiered. Each fairway and landing area is defined with gentle, links-style mounds that accent the course’s three large lakes. The park’s namesake was a Georgia writer, teacher, civic leader and naturalist who loved trees and worked for their preservation.

Nature Trail Tour
Saturday 9 AM - 10 AM until Aug 24, 2013
| Walk the Big Creek Nature Trail with an interpretive guide while learning more about the park's history, flora and fauna, and geocaching. Tours will be approximately 45 miniutes to 1 hour long. Please arrive to the park office by 8:45 am, and remember to dress appropriately and bring water. Register in advance. $5 parking. 912-287-4900. |
