THE BATTLE OF ALLATOONA PASS

Red Top Mountain State Park and Lodge
- Cartersville, GA
Walk the trails, visit the Star Fort earthworks, and follow the old Tennessee Road just as the soldiers did in 1864. Explore daily life in the tent city, see rifle and cannon demonstrations. This event is located at the Allatoona Pass Battlefield. $3 parking. 770-975-4226.

Photographer and Smithgall volunteer Debra Davis will present a lecture/slide program on Southern Appalachian mushrooms. A short walk to view mushrooms will follow. Participants will be provided a unique experience to learn about the important role of fungi in the environment, basic ID and safety. $3 parking. 706-878-3087.

Vogel State Park
- Blairsville, GA
Celebrate autumn’s arrival with a 2 p.m. cakewalk, 4:30 p.m. hayrides, 5 p.m. chili and drinks for sale, 6:30 p.m. campfire and dancing, and finally at 8 p.m. a professional storyteller around a bonfire. $3 parking. 706-745-2628.



FALL CELEBRATION
Saturday, Oct 25, 2008 / 6 PM - 10 PM
Hart State Park
- Hartwell, GA
Enjoy a hayride, hot chocolate and an evening hike. Little guests can trick-or-treat at campsites. There will be a campsite-decorating contest as well. Children 12 and younger can participate in our costume contest. First place for both the campsite decorations and costume contest will receive a prize. $3 parking. 706-376-8756.

Mistletoe-01   FAMILY FALL FEST

Mistletoe State Park
- Appling, GA
Enjoy music, a pumpkin scavenger hunt, apple bobbing, marshmallow roasting, games, storytelling and a night hike. New this year is a "Snakes of Georgia" program. Hayrides every half hour. Celebrate fall and Halloween with crafts, a pumpkin decorating contest, greased pole climb, bobbing for apples and other games from 1-5 p.m. From 5-9 p.m., join in a costume parade, hayrides, trick-or-treating, and a haunted trail.   FALL COLOR RIVER HIKE

Enjoy this ranger-led tour on the Longleaf Pine loop trail. Learn about the unique array of plants and animals that live along the river and in the rocky bluffs. Enjoy a bonfire filled with stories of Ghosts and Goblins. Kids may trick-or-treat in our campground and participate in our costume contest for ages 12 and younger.   CHANGES OF FALL OVERNIGHT BACKPACKING TRIP
Saturday & Sunday, Nov 8-9, 2008 / 10 AM - 5 PM
F.D. Roosevelt State Park - Pine Mountain, GA

This guided trip on the Pine Mountain Trail includes breathtaking vistas, cascading waterfalls, pretty valleys and plentiful water crossings. The 7.5-mile hike will begin at WJSP TV tower. From there we will hike and camp at Sassafras Hill Campsite. Hikers supply their own gear. Register by October 26. $15. 706-663-4858.
