Suwannee River Eco-Lodge in Fargo
The new Suwannee River Eco-lodge, operated by
S.C. Foster State Park
, is a unique location for paddling vacations, hunting retreats, meetings, retreats, reunions and weddings. Surrounded by pine-scented forest, it offers exceptional privacy for individuals and groups. The Eco-lodge is made up of 8 rental cottages with kitchens and porches, a conference room, smaller meeting room, BBQ shelter and commercial kitchen. Guests may rent a portion or all of the facility. All vehicles parked at the Eco-lodge must display a ParkPass and events must end at 10 p.m. The Eco-Lodge has Wi-Fi accessibility and is located 18-miles from S.C. Foster State Park (the western entrance to the Okefenokee Swamp). Just down the road is the
Suwannee River Visitor Center
Eight cottages vary in size and capacity, and all have screened porches with forest views. Cottages include fully equipped kitchens with refrigerator, oven and stove, utensils, and a dining room table. Although wi-fi is available, individual units do not have televisions or telephones, adding to the retreat-like atmosphere.
Units 1 and 10 are on the ends, holding 8 people in 2 bedrooms with 2 beds each. Units 2, 3, 8 and 9 hold 4 people in 1 bedroom with 2 beds. Units 5 and 6 are efficiency units, holding 2 people in 1 bed. Units 2, 5, 6 and 9 are wheelchair accessible. Visitors may rent cottages without also renting other Eco-lodge facilities, making it an affordable getaway for kayakers and anglers exploring the Suwannee River and Okefenokee Swamp.
This window-lined room has seating for 100 and may be configured to host a variety of groups, from meetings to weddings. Dimensions are 32’ x 51’ (1,632 square feet). Ten round tables may be stored to allow room for dancing or DJs. Limited AV equipment is available. Park staff can provide a list of approved caterers for groups that would also like to rent the commercial kitchen.
This 32’ x 26’ (832 square feet) space is designed much like the Conference Room but has seating for 35. Park staff can provide a list of approved caterers for groups that would also like to rent the kitchen.
Only park-approved caterers may use the kitchen, which includes a commercial refrigerator, large oven and stove, microwave, commercial dishwasher and large sink. Pots, pans, utensils, soap and linens are not provided, and caterers are responsible for clean-up. Visitors are encouraged to discuss kitchen needs with caterers before reserving this facility. To reserve the kitchen, visitors must first reserve either the Conference Room or Meeting Room. Cottage guests may not use the commercial kitchen since each unit includes its own private kitchen.
PADDLING, FISHING, GOLF AND MORE
Located near the beautiful Okefenokee Swamp and Suwannee River, the Eco-lodge is surrounded by exceptional outdoor recreation. The 9-hole Fargo Golf Course is just across the road. An on-site catfish pond is popular with anglers and a fishing license is required. While boat rental is not available at the Eco-lodge, local outfitters can provide kayak/canoe rental. The gently flowing Suwannee River, with its tea-colored water and enormous tree trunks, is just a short drive away and may be accessed at the
Suwannee River Visitor Center’s
boat ramp. Entry to the famed Okefenokee Swamp – known for alligators, fishing and birding -- is 18 miles away at
Stephen C. Foster State Park
. Guided pontoon boat tours and boat rentals are available at the park when water levels are high enough.
