9 AM to 5 PM
Georgia's First Fourth
Hear the reading of the Declaration of Independence as it was read in the town of Savannah in August of 1776. Participate in the debate to declare independence or to remain loyal to the king. See musket firings and more.
Did you know that the Declaration of Independence did not make its way to Savannah until August? Join with park rangers and costumed volunteers in a special event celebrating the birth of a nation! The event will begin with a presentation in the theater at 9 AM, followed by a reenactment of the reading of the Declaration and a debate over whether to declare independence.
This event will repeat later in the afternoon with another presentation and reenactment beginning at 3 PM.
