Located near the northern edge of the mysterious Okefenokee Swamp, this park is home to many fascinating creatures and plants, including alligators and carnivorous pitcher plants. Walking or biking along the lake’s edge and nature trail, visitors may spot the shy gopher tortoise, numerous oak varieties, saw palmettos, yellow shafted flickers, warblers, owls and great blue herons. The park’s lake offers opportunities for fishing, swimming and boating, and kayaks and bicycles are available for rent. The Lakes, a championship 18 hole golf course, features a clubhouse, golf pro and junior/senior rates. Greens are undulating rather than tiered. Each fairway and landing area is defined with gentle, links-style mounds that accent the course’s three large lakes. New Sportsman's Cabins sleep six. The park’s namesake was a Georgia writer, teacher, civic leader and naturalist who loved trees and worked for their preservation.

On select Saturdays throughout the year enjoy a story with a park ranger then a fun craft. Each week will be a different theme. Please call the park for specific dates for this program.  $1 plus $5 parking. 912-287-4900.
Natural Knowledge
Wednesdays 10 AM - 12 PM – Aug 31, 2016 until Dec 28, 2016

On select Wednesdays, learn about the wonders of the natural world around us, making a craft, and taking an interpretive hike with our naturalist. Topics vary each week.  $3 plus $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Your State Parks Day

Come join us for a day of service at the park. Volunteers will be working on cleaning up around the park's Interpretive Center. This will mostly include cleaning up vegetation, pine cones, and trash around the center. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Fall Festival

Children of all ages can play brand new games as well as old favorites to win candy. Bring the whole family because we will also have live music, bingo, hayrides, a haunted hayride, face painting and much more! The Night Sky

Join us for a fascinating evening learning about the night sky. Sculpt your own moon crater and create a map of the solar system, then head outdoors to enjoy the view.  $3 plus $5 parking. 912-287-4900.
Walk off the Turkey Hike

Join a member of park staff as we walk off the turkey and talk turkey on the Big Creek Nature Trail. Meet at the Visitor's Center. Please bring water and wear comfortable shoes. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.
Christmas at the Interpretive Center

Join the staff at the Interpretive Center for some holiday crafts, a campfire, and some Christmas sweets. All ages are welcome to join in the fun.  $3 plus $5 parking. 912-287-4900.
