F.D. Roosevelt State Park Can Not Open Pool This Summer
PINE MOUNTAIN, GA., May 16, 2011 ~~ The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced that F.D. Roosevelt State Park's Liberty Bell swimming pool will not open this summer. Like other state parks across Georgia, the Pine Mountain attraction is moving toward becoming less dependent on state revenues for operation.

To achieve this goal, the park needed a private partner to operate its pool. The DNR solicited outside vendors, but only two applicants responded and neither covered all the costs involved. Since the DNR is not in a financial position to supplement the operation, the pool will not be opened for 2011.

“We are extremely disappointed to not open this pool for our visitors,” said State Park Director Becky Kelley, “but we will ensure that the pool stays in good shape, with the hopes that we’ll be in a better situation next year.”

“We hope guests will continue to visit and take advantage of F.D. Roosevelt’s many amenities,” she added. “Visiting is one of the best ways they can support the park during these tough economic times.”

Guests to F.D. Roosevelt State Park can enjoy hiking trails, fishing, canoe rental, camping, picnicking, horseback riding and many other activities. To learn more, visit
