Established as a memorial to U.S. veterans, this park features a museum with aircraft, armored vehicles, uniforms, weapons, medals and other items from the Revolutionary War through the Gulf War. The Lake Blackshear Resort and Golf Club is a privately operated conference center with 78 lodge rooms, 10 cottages and a restaurant. The SAM Shortline Excursion Train runs through the park on its way from Cordele to Plains, allowing riders to see an antique telephone museum, Habitat for Humanity's Global Village, President Jimmy Carter's boyhood farm and other attractions. An 18-hole golf course and pro shop, along with 8,600-acre Lake Blackshear, make this one of Georgia's most popular state parks.

Get Outdoors Georgia Georgia Junior Golf Tour - Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Course

Get Outdoors Georgia Georgia Veterans Memorial Triathlon and Duathlon
Saturday, Aug 16, 2008 7 AM - 10 AM
Racers get a choice of participating in a triathlon, a half-mile swim in Lake Blackshear, a 13.6-mile bike race and a 3.1-mile run, or a duathlon, which drops the half-mile swim.  Registration fee. $3 parking. (229) 273-1668.
School Day Fair

School groups and homeschoolers can go to educational stations on history, nature, wildlife resources and black powder demonstrations. Register in advance.  $1 plus. (229) 276-2371.
Artifact Identification and Primitive Skills Day
Saturday, Oct 18, 2008 10 AM - 4 PM
Archaeologists will identify spear points, arrowheads, pottery and other Native American artifacts brought in by visitors, while programs on primitive and pioneer skills are offered.  $1 plus $3 parking. (229) 276-2371.
Tribute to Veterans

This Veterans Day celebration includes World War II living history, a model airplane fly-in, model boat show and 1 p.m. ceremony with guest speaker, bagpipes and drums, and color guard. $3 parking. (229) 276-2371.
