Little Ocmulgee Detour
DETOUR BEGINS ON STATE ROUTE 31 IN WHEELER COUNTY:

McRae, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Transportation announces a detour route is scheduled for Monday, January 7, 2013 for the construction of the railroad overpass bridge project on the U.S 319/U.S. 441/S.R. 31 near McRae.

Traffic using U.S 319 / U.S. 441 / S.R. 31 will be directed to use the detour routes allowing the contractor to begin the integration of the roadway of the newly constructed railroad overpass bridge into U.S 319 / U.S. 441 / S.R. 31. The detour routes will be in place for 45 days, weather permitting. Motorists will be able to access businesses, schools, and residents in the area.

This project is replacing the bridge on U.S 319 / U.S. 441 / S.R. 31 over the Heart of Georgia Railroad in Wheeler County, northeast of McRae and Helena. The new concrete bridge will have two 12 foot travel lanes with a 10 foot shoulders. The 0.68 mile project will also replace the Y-intersection of U.S 319 / U.S. 441 / S.R. 31and U.S. 280 /S.R. 30 with a T-intersection. This project should be completed early Fall 2013.

The detour routes will be signed as follows:
     U.S. 280 / S.R. 30
     S.R. 126
     U.S 319 / U.S. 441 / S.R. 31

     U.S 319 / U.S. 441 / S.R. 31 will remain open to local traffic up to work zone.
