One of the Southeast’s most beautiful outdoor destinations, Cloudland Canyon State Park, is under new leadership.
Brad Gibson was recently named manager of the 3,488-acre park by officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Gibson is a native of Miami and has more than 20 years of experience in park management. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Florida International University, holds multiple American Red Cross instructor certifications, and is a certified Parks and Recreation Professional from the National Recreation and Parks Association. Gibson lives on the park with his wife Krista and son Grey.
“My wife Krista lived on Lookout Mountain for several years before we met, married, and lived in the Atlanta area, so we are thankful to be back in Dade County,” said Gibson. “We are excited to be putting down some roots here with our son Grey, and we look forward to the journey ahead.”
Cloudland Canyon is one of Georgia’s most rugged state parks, offering camping, yurts, cabins, hiking, picnicking, cave tours, disc golf, geocaching and pond fishing. Recently the park expanded its mountain bike trails and began renting mountain bikes. Five cabins are currently under renovation and are expected to open in August.
