Mother's Day with Mother Nature

Laura S. Walker State Park - Waycross, GA
Do something different from the usual Mother's Day dinner. Bring your mom out the the park for a day of service and fun. We will begin in the park's flower beds picking out undesirables. Then we will go on a hike on Big Creek Nature Trail. When we return, we will plant some seeds to take home and begin the baked goods potluck. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Spread Like Wildflowers

Join us in planting native wildflower seeds through out the park. Afterwards we will create flower pressings, pot our own in containers we decorate, go on a flower ID hike, and learn about why flowers even exist. The day will begin at the Interpretive Center. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Canned Counties

All month long you will be able to drop canned goods off at the park's Visitor's Center. This is a Tri-County competition between Ware, Brantley, and Pierce Counties. The winning county will have free star-gazing programs offered to their 6th grade classes, where the park goes to the school. You can help feed AND educate our community. 912-287-4900.

Invasive Wipeout

We will perform a morning service project of wiping out the park's invasive plant species. An invasive species control workshop will follow, tailored to a typical land/yard owner's needs. We will also have native plants for sale through a local nursery. Come out and learn why foreign plants are an issue and how to get rid of them. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Rivers Alive

The focus on this day is cleaning up around our lake shoreline. The park is working with the local 4-H chapter, and along with the feel good vibes for helping the community, you will also get a free Rivers Alive shirt. We will be meeting at the Interpretive Center, and please bring water,closed-toed shoes, and gloves. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Audubon Christmas Bird Count

Participate in the 118th national bird count. This is an all day event that involves counting birds within a 15 mile diameter circle. Please call the park to pre-register and to choose your shift. We will be meeting at the Visitor's Center. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.
