Prepare the Trail

Help us get Big Creek Nature Trail ready for a new year of fun. Our swamp boardwalk will be cleaned and repaired, erosion areas will be remedied, and flora that interrupts the trail's flow will be cleared. Join a ranger on the hunt for gopher tortoise dens and invasive plants to flag. Brave souls are welcome to clear blockages on Big Creek. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Georgia Arbor Day

Technically, GA Arbor Day is on the 17th, but because of school hours, we will celebrate on that Saturday. Come out to the park to plant our 30 saplings, chosen to promote wildlife welfare at the park. After getting our hands dirty, there will be tree themed crafts and a hike dedicated to identifying the trees here at the park. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Butterflies for Earth Day

We will meet at the Interpretive Center and start Earth Day off with a butterfly count. Splitting off into groups, we will see how many species we have in different habitats. Afterwards, we will have a snack and create awesome butterfly crafts. Everyone will also be able to see butterfly life stages first hand with our buggy residents. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Mother's Day with Mother Nature

Do something different from the usual Mother's Day dinner. Bring your mom out the the park for a day of service and fun. We will begin in the park's flower beds picking out undesirables. Then we will go on a hike on Big Creek Nature Trail. When we return, we will plant some seeds to take home and begin the baked goods potluck. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Spread Like Wildflowers

The name says it all. We will be planting native wildflower seeds through out the park. Afterwards we will create flower pressings, pot our own in containers we decorate, go on a flower ID hike, and learn about why flowers even exist. Invasive Wipeout

We will perform a morning service project of wiping out the park's invasive plant species. An invasive species control workshop will follow, tailored to a typical land/yard owner's needs. We will also have native plants for sale through a local nursery. Come out and learn why foreign plants are an issue and how to get rid of them. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.

Rivers Alive

The focus on this day is cleaning up around our lake shoreline. The park is working with the local 4-H chapter, and along with the feel good vibes for helping the community, you will also get a free Rivers Alive shirt. Audubon Christmas Bird Count

Participate in the 118th national bird count. This is an all day event that involves counting birds within a 15 mile diameter circle. Please call the park to pre-register and to choose your shift. We will be meeting at the Visitor's Center. $5 parking. 912-287-4900.
