Chestnuts on an Open Fire

We'll be finding out how the American Chestnut was lost to Appalachian Forests and new efforts underway to restore the Mighty American Chestnut Tree - All the while roasting chestnuts around the open fire. Bring your own marshmallows. Meet at the Visitor's Center. $5 parking. 770-975-0055.

Join us on Friday evenings to observe the stars above us. Telescope and Gazing Binoculars on hand, or bring your own equipment. We will learn about well-known constellations and celestial events. A Walk through Time on Iron Hill

Ranger lead historic/geology hike on Iron Hill. A billion years in the making; take a Geology Hike on the beautiful Iron Hill Trail. Visit the Iron Pits and Ochre outcrops while learning how three physiographic provinces came together to form the mineral rich formations. $3 plus $5 parking. 770-975-0055.

NO PROGRAM JAN 21ST. Lake Allatoona is drained every winter, exposing the muddy shores - a great place to explore! Come adventure with a ranger, learn how to find and identify animal tracks and other signs of wildlife. We might get muddy, so wear appropriate shoes. Meet at Park Office. Tree Revitalization Projects

We will be focusing on the work our rangers have done to restore native species of trees in parks across Georgia, specifically the Long-leaf Pine, Eastern Hemlock, and American Chestnut trees. Back Yard Bird Count and Hike

We will look for resident birds and winter migrants. This trip will start on the Lakeside Trail, which makes a 0.5 mile loop around a restored 1869 log cabin with field and woodland habitats and a view of Allatoona Lake. It is ADA accessible for the full length. Bring binoculars and comfortable walking shoes. $5 parking. 770-975-0055.

Iron Hill Kayak Tour

In anticipation of the following weekend's "Hills of Iron" event, we will explore the Iron Hill area from a unique perspective.
