Valentine's Day Luminary Riverside Stroll

Chattahoochee Bend State Park - Newnan, GA
Bring your lover out for a stroll along the riverside at sunset. Luminary lanterns light the way along the trail leading to the Observation Tower where we'll keep a fire burning for you. The hike is self-guided for a quiet experience. Bring flashlight, sturdy shoes. Pre-register. No couples admitted after 7:25 pm. $10 a couple $5 parking. 770-254-7271.

This is a rare opportunity to see the remarkable bald eagles nest on site. A ranger will lead a short hike off trail to the nest viewing area with telescopes and binoculars for a closer look. Get the best of both worlds here at the Bend -- a 5.5 mile hike up the Riverside Trail to the bend boat launch where we’ll break for lunch. Then, a short instruction session to get you on your way; a nice, easy paddle back down the Chattahoochee. Boats are available to rent or bring your own. Register in advance, space is limited. Morning Spring Botanic Hike and Afternoon Geocaching

Join us at 10 am for a 1 mile guided hike around the flat rock area. This part of the park hosts a unique ecosystem with a diverse array of plants and wildflowers. At 1 pm we'll be going out with the official geocaching map and GPS device to hunt caches. Bring your own GPS or share ours. Hike is at least 2 miles. Beginners to expert. Bring your baskets and camera; 1000 candy and prize filled eggs and the Easter bunny will be here. Age groups 0-4, 5-8, 9-12. After the hunt get drawing in the sidewalk chalk art contest. Chalk is provided. Ages groups 4-8 and 9-13, prizes for each age group announced at 3:30. Free finger painting for all ages. $3 for egg hunt, $3 for chalk contest. $5 parking. 770-254-7271.

Lyrids Meteor Shower Backpacking Trip

The perfect weekend for backpacking; a full moon and meteor shower. This program is for beginners to backpacking. A 5.5 mile hike to North Platform Camp area, and 5.5 mile return hike the next day. A guided botanic hike around the parks spectacular granite outcrops highlighting the diverse plant and wildlife. Hike begins at 10 am and is a one mile easy loop. At 1 pm we'll teach you how to craft your dog a new toy using 2 old t-shirts (bring your own shirts), then we'll go on a dog pack hike. Your dog will love you for it.
