Hunter Safety Tips

Think Safety First When Hunting

Hunting and the shooting sports are safe, enjoyable activities for all ages.

To ensure that you and your family, and those hunting around you always have a safe experience, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division encourages you to review the following safety tips as a way to prevent incidents from happening while hunting.

Georgia Game Check: Reporting Turkey/Deer Harvest

All turkey and deer hunters are required to have a Harvest Record for the current season.

This includes:

  • hunters under 16 years of age
  • landowners
  • honorary, lifetime and sportsman's license holders
  • hunters not required to purchase any license or a big game license
  • hunters whose big game license has not expired

Additionally, all harvest must be reported within 72 hours through Georgia Game Check

Deer Hunting Opportunities: Either-Sex Map

Select your county on the map to find out when the either-sex days are. Opportunities are listed by the equipment you will use. You can toggle equipment options on and off using the checkboxes to hide and show these opportunities. If you wish to clear the map, select the highlighted county or in the gray map background.

You will need to pan down the map to click counties at the top of the map. Pan and zoom tools can be found by mousing over the right arrow in the menu.
