BEAR TAGGING
All legally-harvested bears must be reported through Georgia Game Check within 24 hours. Additionally, each bear zone has specific checking and tagging requirements. Refer to pages 14-16 in the Hunting and Fishing Regulation Guide for a complete listing of bear regulations.
Northern Bear Zone
Within 3 business days, bears (minimum of hide and skull) must be taken to any Game Management Office (except Fitzgerald) during regular business hours or to a state-approved cooperator for biological data collection and tagging.
Southern Bear Zone
Bears (minimum of hide and skull) must be tagged within 24 hours at a state-approved cooperator in the southern bear zone or at one of the following locations:
Fargo Georgia Forestry Commission Office – Thursdays and Fridays 10 am – 7 pm; Saturdays noon – 9 pm., all hunt days
Folkston Georgia Forestry Commission Office – Thursdays and Fridays 10 am – 7 pm; Saturdays noon – 9 pm., all hunt days
Dixon Memorial WMA – Sept. 25-27; 8 am – 8 pm
After hours, call 1-800-241-4113, or 912-262-3173 on the following business day to arrange tagging.
