Smithgall Woods Education Center

Smithgall Woods Regional Education Center (SWREC) was established at the Smithgall Woods — Dukes Creek Conservation Area in 1997 in response to the growing demand for hands-on environmental education. Smithgall Woods is situated on 5,600 acres, most of which was acquired by the state of GA through a gift-purchase from Charles Smithgall, Jr., a noted conservationist and entrepreneur.

McGraw Ford WMA

McGraw Ford Wildlife Management Area is located in Cherokee County on the Etowah River. The 2,255 acre property has hunting opportunities for deer, bear, turkey, small game, dove and waterfowl. Horse and bike trails and areas are closed before 10:00 a.m. during deer, bear, and turkey seasons. No ATVs are allowed on the property. 

 

J.L. Lester WMA

J.L. Lester Wildlife Management Area is located in Polk County. This 477 acre property offers hunting opportunities for deer, bear, turkey, small game, dove and waterfowl. No ATVs allowed on the property. No night hunting.

 

John's Mountain WMA

John's Mountain Wildlife Management Area is located in Walker, Whitfield, Gordon and Floyd counties. This 24,849 acre property offers hunting opportunities for deer, bear, turkey and small game. No ATVs are allowed on the property. 

 

Rich Mountain WMA

Rich Mountain Wildlife Management Area is located in Gilmer and Fannin counties. This 19,955 acre property offers hunting opportunities for deer, bear, turkey and small game. No ATVs are allowed on the property. 

Cooper's Creek WMA

Cooper's Creek Wildlife Management Area is one of Georgia's larger wildlife management areas. It spans more than 30,000 acres, and lies within the Chattahoochee National Forest. This WMA is located in the extreme northeast corner of Georgia and nearly borders North Carolina. This WMA offers hunting opportunities for deer, bear, turkey and small game. 

Blue Ridge WMA

Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area is located in Fannin, Union, and Lumpkin counties. This 20,900 acre property offers hunting opportunities for deer, bear, turkey and small game. Over 31 miles of hiking trails are open to the public.
